The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media and purportedly signed by the former governor, describing it as an attempt to create confusion within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The disclaimer was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, the document, titled Urgent Message and dated July 14, 2026, did not originate from El-Rufai and should be disregarded.

The family stated that neither the contents nor the handwriting in the circulating document belonged to the former governor.
It further described the letter as the handiwork of individuals seeking to sow confusion and division through misinformation.
The purported letter, which circulated widely online, questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State.
It alleged that Ashiru failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline and urged the party’s leadership to review the nomination process.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the document was fabricated and urged members of the public to ignore it entirely.
As of the time of filing this report, the African Democratic Congress had not publicly responded to the claims contained in the fake document.
