Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has distanced herself from the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council after her name appeared on its list ahead of the 2027 elections.

Abraham was listed as a member of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate in the campaign structure unveiled by the Lagos APC on Thursday.

However, the actress said she had not joined the council and asked the public to disregard the reported inclusion of her name.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” Abraham wrote in an Instagram Story on Thursday.

Her name appeared alongside several prominent figures from Nollywood and the Nigerian music industry, including Jide Kosoko, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Obesere and Adewale Ayuba.

The published structure names Toke Benson-Awoyinka as director of the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate, with Kosoko as co-director and Badmus as deputy director. Akeem Alimi, popularly known as Ajala Jalingo, is listed as secretary.

The council was scheduled for inauguration on Friday, September 18, at the APC secretariat on ACME Road, Ikeja.

Abraham gives further explanation

In a subsequent response published on Friday, Abraham said her decision was not prompted by online criticism.

She said she woke up to find her name on a list about which she said she knew nothing and reiterated that she was not interested in politics.

Her latest position comes after she publicly supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, a decision that generated considerable criticism on social media.

In 2024, Abraham remained the subject of online controversy connected to her political position. PUNCH reported that she faced criticism after taking legal steps against individuals over comments she said were defamatory and targeted her and her family.

One of the incidents involved an X user known as Big Ayo, who accused Abraham of using money allegedly linked to Tinubu to fund a hair transplant for her husband, actor Kolawole Ajeyemi. Abraham denied the allegation and said she had petitioned the cybercrime authorities over what she considered defamatory material.

During an Instagram Live session in July 2024, Abraham spoke emotionally about the online backlash and said she had been pushed to her limit. She also denied that she had caused the arrest of an X user’s mother, explaining that she had filed a petition over the allegations against her.

The episode generated additional debate online, with some users criticising Abraham’s actions and others defending her right to pursue legal remedies.

The controversy resurfaced in April 2026 when Abraham denied another social-media claim that she had caused Big Ayo to be re-arrested. PUNCH reported that she described the allegation as false and said she was working on a film set when the claim circulated.

Name remains on published list

Despite Abraham’s public rejection, her name remained on the published 33-member Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate in reports reviewed after her statement.

The available reports therefore show a discrepancy between the campaign council’s published list and Abraham’s stated position.

The actress has expressly said she is not a member of any campaign council and wants the public to disregard her inclusion.

For now, the Lagos APC’s published document continues to identify her as a member, while Abraham has publicly disowned the reported appointment.

The development adds a notable clarification to the growing list of entertainment figures associated with the Lagos APC’s 2027 campaign structure, but Abraham’s own statement makes clear that she does not regard herself as part of the council.
