The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says preparations have been concluded for what it describes as a massive show of political strength ahead of the June 20 governorship election, with thousands of party supporters expected to converge on Ado-Ekiti for the campaign’s grand finale rally.
The APC Governorship Election Campaign Council said the event, scheduled for Tuesday at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion along New Iyin Road, would serve as a public demonstration of support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his running mate, Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, as they seek another term in office.
According to the council, the rally is expected to attract top figures within the ruling party, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, party leaders and supporters from across the country.
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, the Director of Media and Communication of the Campaign Council, Taiwo Olatunbosun, described the gathering as the climax of months of grassroots mobilisation across the state.
He said the campaign had reached communities across all wards and local government areas, adding that the rally would reflect the level of support the governor has attracted since assuming office.
“The Grand Finale Mega Rally is in support of the re-election of Governor Oyebanji and his Deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye, who are the APC governorship and deputy governorship candidates respectively for the June 20 election,” Olatunbosun said.
The campaign council argued that the expected turnout would underline what it called a broad coalition of support cutting across traditional institutions, professional bodies, market associations, youth groups, women organisations, civil servants, retirees and religious leaders.
The council also linked the anticipated attendance of senior APC leaders to what it described as the strategic importance of Ekiti State to the ruling party and confidence in the administration’s record.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who took office in October 2022, has repeatedly highlighted achievements in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and economic growth as the basis for seeking another mandate.
Supporters of the governor argue that his consensus-driven style of leadership has helped maintain political stability in the state while fostering cooperation among stakeholders across party lines.
The rally comes as political activities intensify ahead of the election, with parties making final efforts to mobilise voters and consolidate support in key constituencies.
Political observers note that campaign rallies often provide parties with an opportunity to demonstrate organisational strength, energise supporters and shape public perception in the final days before voting.
The APC campaign council maintained that the gathering would not only celebrate the administration’s achievements but also reinforce its message of continuity and stability.
“The rally will be a powerful statement of unity and a clear signal that Ekiti people are determined to consolidate on the remarkable gains recorded over the last four years,” the statement said.
Organisers also assured residents that security agencies and relevant authorities had put adequate arrangements in place to ensure a peaceful event. Participants were urged to comply with traffic regulations and security directives throughout the rally.
With days left before voters head to the polls, attention is expected to shift to turnout figures, campaign messaging and the final push by political parties seeking to secure electoral advantage in the closely watched contest.
