The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars, academic qualifications and supporting documents submitted by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the 2027 presidential election, in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2026.
The exercise, which began on Saturday at INEC offices nationwide, forms part of the statutory nomination process that allows members of the public to scrutinise the credentials and affidavits of candidates sponsored by political parties before the elections.
Documents contained in Form EC9 include educational qualifications, National Youth Service Corps records, employment history and sworn affidavits submitted by the presidential candidates.

According to the documents, Tinubu submitted a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University in the United States. His accompanying transcript states that the degree was awarded with honours on June 22, 1979.
His submission also includes an NYSC discharge certificate showing he served in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983.
The employment history contained in the form shows that Tinubu worked with Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992 before serving as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and assuming office as President in 2023.
The personal information section lists his date of birth as March 29, 1952, identifies Lagos as his birthplace and describes his occupation as a politician. The years of attendance for his primary and secondary education were entered as “0000,” while his university qualification was listed with its year of completion.
Shettima’s documents trace his educational journey from primary school. Records show he attended Lamisula I Primary School between 1972 and 1978 before obtaining his WAEC certificate from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, in 1983.
He later earned a Second Class Upper Division degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1989 and subsequently obtained a Master of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.
His NYSC certificate confirms he completed national service between October 1989 and October 1990.
INEC said the publication of Form EC9 is required under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates the commission to display candidates’ personal particulars within 21 days of receiving their nomination documents.
The commission noted that members of the public may inspect the documents, request certified true copies where necessary and seek legal redress over allegations of false declaration or forgery.
Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to commence on August 19 in line with INEC’s revised timetable for the 2027 general elections.
