Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a wanted suspected thug, Abdulkarim Mohammed, also known as “Na-Kareemu,” alongside 26 other suspects during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across Minna, the state capital.
The operations were carried out between July 4 and July 6 at identified black spots, including Kafintella, Sauka-Kahuta, Building Materials Road, PZ area, Angwan-Kaje, Saiko, Abdusalam Quarters, Tudun-Natsira and Paida.
Police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun said operatives attached to the Tudun-Wada Division first arrested 10 suspects during a sting operation after recovering dangerous weapons, including a long curved sharp sickle, a digger, a stick and a shovel.
According to the police, the suspects claimed during interrogation that they had travelled from Yobe State to Minna for illegal mining activities.
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation.
In another operation, officers attached to the ‘A’ Division arrested 17 additional suspects, including Abdulkarim Mohammed, who police described as a wanted thug alleged to have been evading arrest over previous criminal activities.
Officers also recovered four cutlasses, two knives, cannabis and other suspected illicit substances during the raid.
The command said all 27 suspects remain under investigation and reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements across the state.
