The Lagos State Government has deployed a swamp buggy to the Ogombo Canal in Eti-Osa Local Government Area as part of efforts to tackle flooding caused by recent heavy rainfall across parts of the state.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the intervention on Thursday after inspecting flood-affected communities in Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki.
According to him, the specialised equipment has commenced the clearing and desilting of the canal to improve the flow of stormwater.

Wahab said the exercise is aimed at widening and deepening the drainage channel to boost its capacity and speed up the recession of floodwaters in affected communities.
He noted that the intervention forms part of the state’s broader flood management strategy during the rainy season.
The commissioner also urged residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage channels, warning that blocked waterways contribute significantly to flooding.
The Lagos State Government has continued to encourage residents to support efforts to maintain drainage infrastructure and comply with environmental regulations aimed at reducing flood risks.
