At least 30 people, including eight children, have been killed after heavily armed attackers stormed Naridon community in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, in a late-night assault that left homes and businesses in ruins.

The attack occurred around 11 p.m. on Sunday when gunmen invaded the border community, opened fire on residents and set several houses ablaze.

The Secretary to the Village Head of Naridon, Dogon Rana, confirmed that 30 people had been killed while four others were critically injured.

He said the attack devastated the community, with many families losing loved ones and property worth millions of naira destroyed.

Rana disclosed that one resident lost five children in the attack, with the only surviving child battling for life. He also said his own house was among those burnt by the attackers.

Another resident alleged that the assailants operated for about three hours without security intervention despite the proximity of security formations.

Rana blamed the high death toll on the poor state of the access road to the community, saying delayed emergency response worsened the tragedy.

He appealed to the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government to deploy more security personnel and reconstruct the road leading to the village.

Governor Uba Sani condemned the attack and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible. He also instructed the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials and humanitarian assistance to affected families.

The state government said it would strengthen collaboration with the Plateau State Government, security agencies and traditional institutions to improve security along the Kaduna–Plateau border.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar also condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and calling for a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture.

The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Usman Bawa, demanded additional security deployment, a thorough investigation and urgent support for victims and displaced residents.

The latest attack has renewed concerns over persistent insecurity in Southern Kaduna, where communities have continued to face repeated attacks despite ongoing security operations.
