The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University chapter, has suspended its indefinite strike after reaching an agreement with the Plateau State Government on the union’s six-point charter of demands.

The decision was taken on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at an emergency congress meeting held in Jos, where members reviewed the issues that led to the industrial action.

The suspension takes effect from midnight on Wednesday, September 16, with lecturers directed to resume academic activities.

The development was contained in a statement signed by the ASUU-PLASU Chairperson, Dr Vincent Choji, and Secretary, Dr Lomka Iliya Kopdiya.

The union said the decision followed an agreement reached between its negotiating team and that of the state government.

The government delegation was led by the Head of Service, Steven Pam Gadong, while the union’s team was headed by its Zonal Coordinator, Prof Aku Timothy Namo. Their meeting was held at the Head of Service’s conference hall.

According to the union, both sides reached what it described as a “reasonable conclusion” on the six-point charter of demands.

Key areas covered by the agreement include the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme and full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement, including payment of arrears from January 2026.

The parties also agreed on the provision of safe and secure staff quarters and the construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence.

The agreement further addresses the union’s complaint over the alleged intimidation of its leaders, as contained in its May 18, 2026 letter to Congress through the Registrar.

ASUU also said the parties agreed on the payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25 per cent and 35 per cent wage award.

Following the agreement, the union directed its members to resume all academic activities.

ASUU-PLASU declared the total and indefinite strike on August 26 after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university administration.

The union had accused the university authorities of failing to satisfactorily address its six demands, including pension contributions, implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement, payment of arrears, provision of staff quarters, campus security infrastructure and alleged intimidation of union leaders.

The lecturers also demanded payment of 22 months’ outstanding arrears of the 25/35 per cent wage award.

The latest development is expected to bring an end to the disruption of academic activities at Plateau State University, with lecturers scheduled to return to work from Wednesday.
