The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has reportedly unveiled the names of a newborn princess at a traditional naming ceremony in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The reported ceremony was said to have taken place at the ancient Emese Court within the Ooni’s Palace on Sunday, one week after the alleged birth of the baby girl.

The report said the event attracted traditional rulers, palace chiefs, members of the royal family, custodians of Yoruba culture and other dignitaries and well-wishers.

According to the account, the princess was given the names Adelewa, Adeyele, Adeshikemi and Ayoade, Omo Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.

The names were reportedly announced by the Lowa Adimula of Ife, Oba Ademola Adeyeye, with the approval of the Ooni.

The ceremony was said to have featured prayers, royal blessings and traditional rites performed to formally welcome the child into the House of Oduduwa.

Several symbolic items, including sugarcane, aadun, honey, dried fish, money, pen, bitter kola, kola nuts, alligator pepper, snails, schnapps, water, palm oil and doves, were reportedly used during the ceremony.

The items were said to represent prayers and wishes for sweetness, prosperity, wisdom, longevity, abundance, peace, knowledge, fertility, protection and a life of honour.

The Lowa Adimula reportedly prayed for the princess to be blessed with wisdom, sound health, strength, grace and long life.

He also prayed that she would grow into a worthy representative of the royal dynasty and an ambassador of the Yoruba race.

The Ooni, according to the report, expressed gratitude to Olodumare for what he described as a precious gift of new life and a divine blessing to the House of Oduduwa.

The monarch reportedly thanked God for preserving the mother and child throughout the pregnancy and delivery and prayed for the princess to grow in wisdom, grace, honour, sound health and divine favour.

He also prayed for her life to be defined by purpose, service, excellence and a strong connection to Yoruba heritage.

The reported development comes only months after another major addition to the Ooni’s household.

In May 2026, the monarch announced the birth of twin boys with Olori Mariam Ajibola Ogunwusi. A traditional naming ceremony was subsequently held at the Ooni’s Palace, where the twins were formally given multiple Yoruba names.

That ceremony also featured traditional rites and prayers, reflecting the continuing importance of Yoruba customs in royal family celebrations.

The latest report, however, has not been independently corroborated by the Ooni’s Palace in the sources reviewed by News Velocity NG. The identity of the alleged mother and the reported names of the princess should therefore be treated with caution pending official confirmation.
