Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has returned to the Ago-Iwoye Police Division in Ogun State, where he served as a Divisional Police Officer early in his career.

Disu’s visit to the station offered him an opportunity to revisit the place where he first tested his leadership skills as a DPO.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, shared a video of the visit on Saturday, showing the IGP touring the police station and surrounding areas.

Speaking in the video, Disu described the return as an emotional experience.

“This is my first police station. This is where I learned to be a DPO,” he said.

The IGP recalled that he had never previously served as a DPO when he was posted to Ago-Iwoye, describing the assignment as his first opportunity to test his leadership abilities.

“It’s emotional being here. I’ve just gone around to see my room. I’ve entered the office and I’ve looked around,” he said.

Disu also revisited the former residential quarters and other parts of the premises, recalling people and experiences from his early years in the Nigeria Police Force.

He remembered an elderly woman who used to sell items near the police station and rear goats that occasionally wandered into the premises.

The IGP also recalled Baba Aladji, another community member he remembered from his time in Ago-Iwoye.

For Disu, the visit was more than a return to a former workplace. It was a reminder of how far his policing career had taken him.

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and served as DPO in Ago-Iwoye before taking up other operational assignments. He later served in several command and tactical positions, including assignments in Ondo and Rivers states.

He went on to command the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad and head the Force Intelligence Response Team before serving as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Now at the top of the police hierarchy, Disu used his return to Ago-Iwoye to reflect on professional responsibility and the importance of leaving a positive mark wherever one serves.

“Where you work, do well,” he said.

He then posed a question that became the central message of his visit: “Can you go back to where you worked before?”

The IGP’s return to Ago-Iwoye provided a rare glimpse into the early chapter of the career that eventually took him from divisional command in Ogun State to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
