Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has added an academic qualification to his football career after graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship.
Awoniyi announced the achievement on Instagram on Tuesday, revealing that he graduated with Merit.
The Nigerian forward said his decision to pursue further education was driven by his belief that being a professional footballer should not prevent him from continuing his academic development.
“Another proud moment for me off the pitch,” Awoniyi wrote.
He said education had become an important part of his journey and stressed the importance of remaining a student of the game even while pursuing a professional football career.
“I have always believed that being a footballer shouldn’t stop you from being a student of the game and education has become an important part of that journey for me,” he said.
The striker thanked the PFA Business School, lecturers and fellow students for their support during the programme.
He also expressed appreciation to his family and friends for their encouragement.
“Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues,” Awoniyi added.
The qualification gives Awoniyi additional academic grounding in football management and sporting leadership, potentially broadening his options within the game beyond his playing career.
Awoniyi began his professional career with Imperial Academy in Nigeria before joining Liverpool in 2015.
He subsequently played for several European clubs, including Union Berlin and Nottingham Forest, while also earning senior international appearances for Nigeria.
The striker moved from Nottingham Forest to Coventry City in August 2026, continuing his career in English football.
For Awoniyi, the latest milestone represents an achievement away from the pitch while his playing career continues.
“Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues,” he said.
