Bruno Guimaraes has promised to fight for Arsenal and help the club win more trophies after completing his £75m move from Newcastle United.

The Brazil international has signed a long-term contract with Arsenal and arrives in north London determined to make an immediate impact after deciding that he needed a new challenge at this stage of his career.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Guimaraes said his ambitions go beyond simply establishing himself at his new club.

“I want to win trophies, I want to make history, and I think I’m in the right place to do it,” he said.

The 28-year-old joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and quickly became one of the Premier League club’s most influential players. He also helped Newcastle end their long wait for major silverware with victory in the Carabao Cup in 2025.

His move to Arsenal now gives him the opportunity to compete regularly for major honours with a side that has established itself among England’s leading clubs.

Guimaraes is expected to strengthen Arsenal’s midfield alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, while offering manager Mikel Arteta greater flexibility in both possession and defensive situations.

The Brazilian revealed that Rice has already reached out to him following the transfer, with the England midfielder joking about their previous battles on the pitch.

“Rice sent me a message: ‘Come here and please no more fights, now we’re friends,’” Guimaraes said.

The former Newcastle captain said he considers Arsenal’s midfield one of the strongest in Europe and believes the team’s style fits his own game.

He described himself as a midfielder who can pass, run, defend and contribute goals, but stressed that supporters should expect plenty of commitment.

“I can pass the ball, run a lot and play like a warrior, I’ll never give up,” he said.

Guimaraes also made clear that he wants his Arsenal career to be remembered long after he leaves the club.

“I want to put my name in the club history,” he said. “Someday, when I leave, I want players to come here and say I want to do exactly what Bruno did for the club.”

The Brazilian identified former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva as one of the players whose legacy he admires and hopes to emulate.

“Of course, Gilberto Silva. I love him as a player,” he said.

Guimaraes will wear the No.39 shirt at Arsenal, retaining the number that has followed him throughout his career.

The choice has a deeply personal meaning. His father, who worked as a taxi driver in Brazil, encouraged him to use the number because of its connection to his taxi. Guimaraes has kept it ever since.

His arrival at Arsenal comes after the club pursued him for some time, with the transfer finally completed after Newcastle agreed to the reported £75m deal.

For Guimaraes, the move is the next stage of a career that has already included domestic trophies in Brazil, an Olympic gold medal and silverware with Newcastle.

But he insists he is not satisfied with what he has already achieved.

“It’s massive what I have done so far, but I want more,” he said. “I want to win for Arsenal.”

And his message to the supporters was simple.

“I will give you my best, I promise. Like I said, I’m your warrior, I’ll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together.”
