The Federal Government has demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the killing of Nigerian citizen Ibeh Chika Simon during a South African Police Service operation in Bellville, Cape Town.
In a statement issued by the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, the government condemned the incident and expressed concern over the shooting of another Nigerian, Egwabor Patrick Chuks, who is receiving treatment for severe injuries sustained during the operation.
The Nigerian mission described the circumstances surrounding Simon’s death as questionable and called on South African authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

According to the Consulate, while Nigerians living in South Africa are expected to respect the country’s laws, no alleged offence justifies unlawful killings or the excessive use of force.
It stressed that every suspect is entitled to due process and urged authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the operation.
The Consulate also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.
It appealed to Nigerians residing in South Africa to remain calm and pursue justice through lawful and diplomatic channels.
The incident comes amid renewed concerns over the safety of Nigerians in South Africa following previous reports of attacks on foreign nationals and allegations of police misconduct.
The Federal Government says it will continue engaging South African authorities as investigations into the latest incident progress.
