Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has predicted victory for the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in the 2027 elections as supporters associated with the All Progressives Congress, APC, joined the party in Ibadan.
Makinde spoke on Monday at the Boye Nation/JAF Movement Mega Concert held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, where he formally received Ajiboye Akande Sangogade, popularly known as Boye Nation, and his supporters.
Sangogade, a former personal assistant and political associate of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, led the group into the APM alongside supporters drawn from different parts of Oyo State.
The governor said the development showed support for the APM and predicted that the party would record a major victory in the 2027 elections.
“We will win massively in all elections in 2027,” Makinde said.
He also urged the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, to focus his campaign on the APM candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, rather than criticising his administration.
Makinde again criticised Alli over his comments about the Oyo government and contrasted the professional backgrounds of the two governorship candidates.
Adekanmbi emerged as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate in May after the party’s governorship and legislative primaries in Ibadan.
The former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance has previously said he would not become a political “stooge” to Makinde if elected governor, while also pledging to build on policies and programmes of the current administration.
Makinde also addressed criticism over the use of diesel-powered generators to operate some streetlights in Oyo State.
The governor attributed the arrangement to Nigeria’s wider electricity supply challenges, arguing that the state would not have needed diesel generators for the streetlights if the national power situation had improved.
He linked the issue to commitments by the Federal Government to address the country’s electricity crisis.
The event, organised under the theme “Young, United, Unstoppable,” combined entertainment with political mobilisation and featured performances by Fuji musicians.
It attracted government officials, APM leaders, legislators, party candidates and supporters.
Among those in attendance were Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi; members of the National and Oyo State Houses of Assembly; commissioners and other government functionaries.
APM senatorial candidates, including Shina Peller for Oyo North, Ajadi Oguntoyinbo for Oyo Central and Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide Odidiomo for Oyo South, also attended the gathering.
House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and local government chairmanship candidates of the party were also present.
The event adds to the political mobilisation by the APM ahead of the 2027 elections, with the party positioning its candidates for contests across Oyo State and at the national level.
