The Ekiti State Police Command, EKSU, has arrested two suspected robbers in connection with a midnight attack on off-campus hostels housing students of Ekiti State University in Ado Ekiti. This incident has raised fresh concerns over security around the university community.

The robbery, which occurred at about 2:30 am on Saturday in the Iworoko area, reportedly saw the assailants break into private student hostels and forcibly dispossess occupants of their mobile phones and other valuables.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the suspects were arrested after operatives of the Iworoko Police Division swiftly responded to a distress call and tracked the attackers to their hideout.

According to him, the police also recovered several items believed to have been stolen during the operation, including an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle allegedly used for the robbery, two mobile phones, two MP digital radios, shoes, and clothing materials.

“Upon receipt of the information, police operatives from Iworoko Division swung into action, trailed the culprits to their hideouts and arrested two, while others escaped,” Abutu said.

He identified the suspects as Abdulraman Abdulmumini, 26, and Abdulsalam Oseni, 31, adding that both men confessed during interrogation and provided useful information about other members of the gang currently on the run.

The police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing and that efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional stolen items.

The incident comes amid growing anxiety among students over security in off-campus hostels around EKSU, especially in the Iworoko and Phase 2 axis, where similar attacks have recently been reported.

Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged members of the public to continue supporting the command with credible intelligence to help curb criminal activities across the state.
