Real Madrid have extended Antonio Rudiger’s contract until June 2027, handing the veteran German defender a one-year extension as the Spanish giants continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.
The La Liga club confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the future of the 33-year-old center-back, whose previous deal was due to expire at the end of June 2026.
“Real Madrid and Antonio Rüdiger have agreed to the extension of our player’s contract, who will stay at the club until June 30, 2027,” the club said in a statement.

Rudiger joined Madrid on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022 after previous spells with Stuttgart and Roma.
Since arriving in Spain, he has established himself as one of the club’s most influential defenders, making more than 180 appearances and helping Real Madrid win multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and La Liga title.
Despite battling injuries during the 2025/26 campaign, Rudiger remained a key figure in Madrid’s backline and continued to be one of the club’s most experienced defenders.
The contract extension comes amid a busy summer at the Santiago Bernabéu. Real Madrid recently completed the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea as part of efforts to strengthen the squad following a disappointing season.
The club has also been linked with further defensive reinforcements, including Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté and Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
Rudiger’s renewal is seen as a major boost for Real Madrid as they seek to rebuild and challenge for domestic and European honours in the coming campaign.
The Germany international is now set to enter his fifth season with Los Blancos, extending a stay that has already delivered some of the biggest trophies in club football.
The decision also underlines the club’s confidence in his leadership, experience and defensive qualities as Real Madrid prepare for a new era under Jose Mourinho.
