Former Sokoto State Governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged Nigerians to democratically vote out President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections, alleging that the Federal Government has failed to adequately tackle insecurity and other national challenges.
Tambuwal made the call in Sokoto while receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, into the African Democratic Congress after his resignation from the All Progressives Congress.
Describing Kalanjeni’s return as a “homecoming,” Tambuwal commended the former council chairman for maintaining respectful relationships with ADC members despite previously leaving the party.
He also described Kalanjeni’s resignation from both the APC and his elective office as a courageous decision.
According to Tambuwal, many politicians who leave the ruling APC avoid joining the ADC because of political pressure, adding that those joining the opposition party are motivated by national interest.
The former governor further alleged that attempts to weaken the ADC had failed and claimed the party’s growing influence had unsettled the ruling establishment.
He urged party members to conduct their political activities peacefully and avoid insults or inflammatory rhetoric.
Tambuwal also linked Nigeria’s security challenges to what he described as poor governance, citing recent attacks in parts of Sokoto State as evidence that more needs to be done.
He appealed to Nigerians to pursue political change through constitutional and democratic means during the 2027 general elections.
Kalanjeni was formally received into the ADC alongside the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, State Chairman Abdullahi Maigwandu and other party leaders.
The Presidency had not publicly responded to Tambuwal’s comments as of the time of publication.
