Manchester United have completed the signing of Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for a reported £35 million, with the experienced playmaker putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old becomes the club’s third signing of the summer transfer window as manager Michael Carrick continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
Tielemans arrives after an impressive campaign with Aston Villa, where he helped the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League and win the Europa League. He also captained Belgium to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after sealing the move, the midfielder described joining Manchester United as a dream come true and said the club’s ambition convinced him to make the switch.
Manchester United Director of Football Jason Wilcox praised Tielemans’ consistency, leadership and technical ability, expressing confidence that the Belgian will make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
Tielemans joined Aston Villa in 2023 after leaving Leicester City, where he enjoyed considerable success, including lifting the FA Cup. His wealth of Premier League experience is expected to add composure and creativity to United’s midfield.
The Belgian follows Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow through the doors at Old Trafford as United continue rebuilding their squad after qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
