The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the death of Mariam Usman, a teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Oyiza Afusat, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, uncovered the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death after an intensive investigation.
According to the police, the case was officially reported on June 25, 2026, shortly after the victim died from injuries allegedly sustained during a series of assaults linked to disciplinary action she took against a pupil.
Investigators said that on June 17, 2026, Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the teacher at her residence after she disciplined his 11-year-old son during school hours.
Police said she was attacked again later that day while on her way to a mosque for prayers by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.
The following day, Ojonojima Mary, identified as the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly assaulted the teacher at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School.
The victim was initially treated at Grace Clinic in Ugbamaka before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic, Okpo, where she later succumbed to her injuries on June 25.
Police said investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects.
The suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka—will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Kankarofi commended detectives of the Homicide Section for their professionalism and dedication in handling the investigation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and urged residents to seek lawful means of resolving disputes rather than resorting to violence.
The commissioner also encouraged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to strengthen crime prevention efforts across Kogi State.
