Spain forward Lamine Yamal has become the first player under the age of 20 to win both the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
The Barcelona star achieved the feat after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in Sunday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
At 19, Yamal is the youngest footballer to complete the international double.

He played a key role throughout Spain’s victorious World Cup campaign, contributing important goals, assists and creative performances as Luis de la Fuente’s side lifted their second World Cup title.
Yamal first announced himself on the global stage during UEFA Euro 2024, where he helped Spain win the title and became the youngest player to appear, score and provide an assist in the history of the tournament.
He also won the Young Player of the Tournament award after Spain defeated England in the final.
The latest achievement places Yamal among the select group of players to have won both the European Championship and the FIFA World Cup, while making him the first to accomplish the feat before turning 20.
His remarkable rise continues to establish him as one of world football’s brightest young stars.
