Police authorities in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, have arrested a Lagos resident, identified as Emmanuel Joy (also reported as Imyunel Joy), after intercepting her with 57.18 grams of high-grade cocaine valued at over Rs 29 lakh (approximately N40.9 million).

The suspect was apprehended in the Sinhasa IT Park area under the jurisdiction of the Chandan Nagar Police Station during heightened security operations organized for the festival period.

According to official details provided by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dishesh Agarwal, a police surveillance team patrolling crowded public zones spotted Joy carrying a black bag and acting suspiciously. Upon being intercepted by law enforcement officers, she failed to give satisfactory answers regarding her movement and displayed visible nervousness while speaking in English.

A subsequent search conducted by female police officers led to the recovery of 57.18 grams of cocaine concealed inside transparent plastic pouches and capsule shells within her bag. Her mobile phone was immediately seized as digital evidence to support the ongoing criminal investigation.

Preliminary investigations reveal that Joy arrived in India from Nigeria on August 14 on a seven-month business visa. She had been residing in the Bandra East neighborhood of Mumbai, where she reportedly worked at a local hair salon alongside her sister.

Police officers confirmed that she had traveled from Mumbai to Indore to deliver the illicit drugs to local buyers. During preliminary interrogations, the suspect allegedly disclosed that she purchased the cocaine at a wholesale rate in Mumbai with the intention of reselling it in Indore at an inflated price for quick financial profit.

Chandan Nagar Police Station has formally registered a criminal case against Joy under Sections 8 and 21 of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

“Since the accused is a foreign national, we are thoroughly verifying her passport, business visa, immigration records, entry-exit details, and stay history through relevant central agencies,” police officials noted.

Following her initial court appearance, Joy was remanded in custody to enable narcotics investigators to expand their inquiry. Law enforcement agencies have deployed cybercrime specialists to analyze her mobile phone communications, call log records, and deleted instant messaging data to identify her suppliers in Mumbai, her local receivers in Indore, and the broader cross-city trafficking ring.
