Olawale Adekoya, the saxophonist of Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has apologised over the viral “unnecessary pregnancy” performance that generated widespread reactions on social media.

In a video shared on his TikTok page, Adekoya accepted responsibility for interpreting a traditional alujo drum rhythm during a live performance, insisting K1 had no involvement in the controversial chant.

The performance attracted criticism after it surfaced online days after a woman, Ogechi Eleana, alleged that the Fuji star abandoned her and their 12-year-old daughter.

Although the timing fueled speculation, K1 never stated that the performance was directed at the woman or her claims.

Explaining what happened, Adekoya said the rhythm had existed in the band’s repertoire for years and only recently became associated with humorous interpretations among members of the group.

He said the beat was created by percussionist Ayokunle Ayolowo and had become one of K1’s favourite musical sequences.

According to him, the phrase that later sparked controversy was invented jokingly by band members long before the allegations against the Fuji musician emerged.

Adekoya maintained that K1 neither suggested nor approved the interpretation.

He also denied claims that the band mocked the woman or her daughter during the performance, describing it as an unintended coincidence that occurred at a sensitive time.

Apologising on behalf of the band, he acknowledged that the performance was ill-timed and expressed regret to everyone offended by it.

He added that his apology was voluntary and made out of sincerity rather than external pressure.
