Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has pledged 10 buses to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, deepening the political divide between the younger Abubakar and his father.
Abba announced the pledge during a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat in Abuja on Friday, where he was received by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori.
According to a statement issued by Yusi Buba, Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation to the APC deputy national chairman, Abba expressed support for Tinubu’s administration and commended the party’s leadership.
Buba said the buses would support activities aimed at mobilising Nigerians for the re-election of Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
The statement quoted the APC aide as saying Abba had demonstrated his commitment to the forthcoming political engagement through the proposed donation.
Dalori reportedly welcomed the pledge, describing it as support for the party’s mobilisation activities ahead of the elections.
The announcement followed Abba’s unveiling of the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation (HBTO), a political support platform established to mobilise nationwide support for the President’s second-term ambition.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Abba said the organisation would commence its activities in the Federal Capital Territory before expanding its operations to other parts of the country.
He also announced plans for a two-million-man mobilisation march across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with Abuja expected to host the first exercise.
The organisation plans to establish structures across the country and engage community leaders, youth groups, women organisations and other political stakeholders to strengthen support for Tinubu.
Abba also disclosed that the group intended to work with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whom he described as an important political figure in its mobilisation strategy.
He said the organisation was preparing for a major mobilisation exercise in Rivers State the following week, adding that its structures and supporters were being activated.
The development places Abba on a different political side from his father, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election.
Abba defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in January 2026, declaring support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
His decision to back the President has attracted attention because of his father’s position as one of the leading opposition figures challenging the ruling party.
Atiku has maintained his opposition to the Tinubu administration and is preparing to challenge the President in the 2027 presidential election.
Abba, however, has maintained that his political decision is personal and should be respected independently of his family’s political affiliations.
In explaining his support for Tinubu, he cited government initiatives, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), investments in road infrastructure and increased allocations to state governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
He also referenced government interventions aimed at cushioning the economic difficulties experienced by Nigerians.
The proposed 10-bus initiative and nationwide mobilisation campaign represent part of the organisation’s efforts to translate its support for Tinubu into grassroots political activities ahead of the next general elections.
