The Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted a 40-foot container loaded with expired disposable vape products valued at N809.6 million at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command in Lagos, in what officials described as part of intensified efforts to prevent unsafe goods from entering the Nigerian market.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Adigun, announced the seizure during a media briefing, saying the container, with registration number TIIU4739360, was intercepted during a thorough cargo examination.
Adigun also disclosed that the command generated N19.4 billion in revenue in June 2026, up from N14.3 billion recorded in the same month of 2025.
According to him, the increase of N5.041 billion represents a 35 percent year-on-year growth, which he attributed to improved stakeholder compliance, intelligence-driven enforcement, and enhanced trade facilitation.
He said a physical examination of the intercepted container revealed 18 pallets of disposable vape products.
Each pallet contained 60 cartons, with some cartons holding 20 packs and others 40 packs, while each pack contained 10 pieces, bringing the total quantity to 182,340 pieces packed in 484 cartons.
Further inspection showed the products had expiry dates ranging from 2022 to 2026, rendering them unfit for use and posing potential health risks.
Adigun said the command had begun the process of transferring the seized products to the appropriate government agency for regulatory action and safe disposal in accordance with established procedures.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement, noting that officers would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations, effective risk management, and stringent cargo examination to detect expired, falsely declared, prohibited, and other non-compliant imports.
The Acting Controller urged importers and licensed customs agents to comply strictly with import regulations and encouraged them to take advantage of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Authorised Economic Operator Programme and Advance Ruling System to facilitate legitimate trade.
He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, the command’s officers, partner agencies, terminal operators, and compliant stakeholders for their contributions to the command’s operational achievements.
