Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned Hausa political singer Muhammadu Buhari, popularly known as Kosan Waka, who died on Sunday at the age of 47 after a brief illness.

The governor’s condolence message was conveyed in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, describing the late musician as one of the most influential voices in Hausa political music whose works promoted unity, culture and civic awareness.

According to the statement, Kosan Waka will be laid to rest in his hometown of Tsanni, in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, with burial scheduled for Sunday evening in accordance with Islamic rites.

Governor Yusuf extended his condolences to the deceased’s family—particularly his mother—as well as his friends, associates, admirers and the people of Kano State.

“The late Kosan Waka was a Kano-based patriotic son of Katsina whose music transcended politics and served as a powerful tool for promoting unity, culture and public enlightenment,” the governor said.

He described the late singer as one of Kano’s most celebrated political musicians, noting that his distinctive style, lyrical depth and captivating performances earned him admiration across northern Nigeria and beyond.

According to the governor, Kosan Waka made lasting contributions to political communication through music, using his songs to comment on governance, elections, leadership and social issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.

The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the late singer’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

Kosan Waka built a reputation over the years as one of the leading Hausa political singers, producing songs that featured prominently during election campaigns and public discourse in northern Nigeria. His music often addressed politics, governance, social justice and community development, making him a familiar figure across the region’s political landscape.

His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, entertainers and fans who described him as a gifted performer whose music left a lasting mark on Hausa culture and political engagement.
