The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to combat the growing threat of Improvised Explosive Devices by launching a specialised training seminar for bomb disposal experts in Kaduna.

The programme, organised by the 41 Engineer Brigade, 1 Division Nigerian Army, forms part of activities marking the graduation of Explosive Ordnance Disposal X2 Course 126 and aims to strengthen the operational capacity of Army engineers.

Representing the Commander, Corps of Engineers, Maj.-Gen. S.T. Shafaru, Maj.-Gen. Josiah Attah said the training is designed to equip personnel with the skills required to detect, disarm and safely neutralise explosive devices during military operations.

He noted that IEDs remain one of the most significant threats confronting troops in ongoing counter-insurgency and internal security operations, making continuous specialised training essential.

According to him, the Nigerian Army has continued to collaborate with international partners, including the British Military Assistance Training Team and the German Training and Assistance Group, to improve technical expertise and operational effectiveness.

The Army also disclosed that facilities at the 41 Engineer Brigade Training School are being upgraded to provide more realistic training for bomb disposal personnel.

General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase, represented by Brig.-Gen. Anwar Abdullahi, urged participants to apply the knowledge gained in their operational deployments.

Commander of the 41 Engineer Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Sheriff Aremu, said the course became necessary because of the increasing use of IEDs by criminal and terrorist groups in ongoing military operations.

The seminar brought together senior military officers, commanders, representatives of security agencies and resource persons, with participants expected to strengthen collaboration and improve Nigeria’s preparedness against explosive threats.
