The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected ritualists following the recovery of an item believed to be a human skull during a joint security operation in Ijio, Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The operation, carried out in collaboration with the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun, followed credible intelligence about the alleged activities of a suspect said to be in possession of suspected human remains.
Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the operation was conducted on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga.
According to the command, operatives arrested Shittu Isah of the Kajola area of Ijio and recovered the suspected human skull, which has been taken into police custody as evidence.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to exhuming the item from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio and reportedly identified another suspect, Tunde Ajibade, who was subsequently arrested to assist investigators.
Police said the recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to determine its nature while detectives continue efforts to establish the motive behind the alleged offence and identify any other persons connected to the case.
The command emphasised that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be accorded due legal process.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the police urged residents to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in combating crime across the state.
