Coventry City ended a 25-year wait for a Premier League victory on Saturday after Jay Dasilva’s second-half goal secured a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The victory was Coventry’s first in the Premier League since April 2001, when they defeated Bradford City 2-1.

It also gave Frank Lampard’s newly promoted side their first points and first goal of the 2026/27 league season after a difficult start to life back in the top flight.

Coventry had lost their opening four league matches without scoring, leaving them at the bottom of the table before travelling to Nottingham.

However, they produced a disciplined display against Forest and eventually found the breakthrough five minutes after the restart.

Dasilva put Coventry ahead in the 55th minute after goalkeeper Carl Rushworth launched a long ball forward.

The defender raced onto the pass before calmly finishing beyond Matz Sels to give the visitors a crucial lead.

Forest responded by increasing the pressure as they searched for an equaliser, but Coventry’s defence held firm.

Rushworth was also called into action several times as the hosts looked for a way back into the match.

Forest thought they had levelled late on when substitute Igor Jesus found the net.

But referee Jarred Gillett was sent to the pitchside monitor following a VAR intervention and subsequently ruled that Jesus had fouled Coventry defender Caleb Yirenkyi in the build-up.

The goal was therefore disallowed, preserving Coventry’s advantage.

Forest continued to push for an equaliser, with Morgan Gibbs-White coming close before Bobby Thomas produced a crucial goal-line clearance to keep the visitors ahead.

Coventry held on through the closing stages to secure their first Premier League victory since 2001.

The result also ended their four-match losing streak and lifted them from the foot of the table.

For Forest, the defeat was their second league loss of the campaign and leaves them with five points from their opening five matches.

The victory represents a major lift for Lampard’s side after their difficult opening to the season.

Coventry will now look to build on the result after the international break, while Forest will have to regroup following another frustrating home performance.
