An All Progressives Congress member, identified as Ridwan Adeyemo and popularly known as Paul Moor, has reportedly been hacked to death in Ibadan, Oyo State, prompting Senator Sharafadeen Alli’s campaign organisation to call for an investigation into the incident.
The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) alleged that suspected supporters of the Allied Peoples Movement attacked Adeyemo following his defection from the APM to the APC.
The victim was reportedly attacked on Friday in the Agbokojo area of Ibadan, a day before his 35th birthday.
However, the alleged political motive and the identities of the assailants have not been independently established.
The Oyo State Police Command had yet to confirm the killing when contacted by Tribune Online, which quoted the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, as saying he could not confirm the attack.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO condemned the reported killing and called on elders across the state to prevail on political leaders and their supporters to avoid violence as activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation urged Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, to caution their supporters against attacks on members of rival political parties.
SSACO described the incident as part of what it alleged was a growing pattern of attacks against opposition figures and campaign teams in the state.
It claimed that Alhaja Tawakalit Alli, wife of Senator Alli, was attacked during a free medical outreach she organised the previous week.
The group also alleged that the APC candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, was attacked during a campaign, while the campaign train of the party’s Oyo South senatorial candidate, Remi Oseni, was also targeted.
SSACO further alleged that the campaign team of Accord Party governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, was attacked during a campaign event at Molete, Ibadan.
The allegations concerning these incidents were contained in the campaign organisation’s statement. The circumstances of the reported attacks and the identities of those responsible have not been independently established.
APC demands investigation
The Oyo State chapter of the APC also condemned Adeyemo’s killing and called on security agencies to investigate the incident.
The deceased was identified in separate reports as an APC member in Ward 06 of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area and a commercial motorcyclist. He was reportedly attacked in the Ita-Barika area of Agbokojo, Ibadan.
The APC alleged that his attackers questioned his political allegiance before assaulting him, but the claim has not been independently verified.
The party called for the perpetrators to be identified and brought to justice, while saying it would support the police investigation.
Calls for peaceful campaigns
SSACO said political differences should not prevent citizens from exercising their constitutional rights to freedom of association and expression.
“Oyo State belongs to all citizens and residents, not just APM members,” the organisation said, warning that political ambition should not come at the expense of human lives.
It also urged the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the reported killing and ensure that anyone found responsible was prosecuted.
The organisation maintained that Senator Alli would continue with an issue-based campaign and appealed to political parties to embrace peaceful engagement.
The reported killing comes amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, with the APC and APM already exchanging accusations over alleged attacks and the destruction of campaign billboards in Ibadan.
The circumstances surrounding Adeyemo’s death, including the alleged involvement of political supporters and the motive for the attack, remain matters for investigation.
