The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, over the alleged stabbing to death of his 21-year-old neighbour, Haggai Markus, following a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred at Mararaban Vimtim on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at about 8pm.
The police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the disagreement centred on roasted meat allegedly taken from a butcher’s table.
According to the police account, the argument escalated when Augustine allegedly used a knife to stab Markus in the chest.
The victim’s father, identified as Markus Gabo, reportedly alerted the police at about 8:45pm on the same day.
Nguroji said officers attached to the Mubi North Division visited the scene after receiving the report and found Markus lying in a pool of blood.
The police recovered a sharp knife suspected to have been used in the attack and arrested Augustine.
The victim’s body was subsequently evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
The command said the suspect and the case diary would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and assured residents that the command would pursue justice.
He also appealed to members of the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and report disputes to the police rather than resorting to violence.
The incident comes days after another fatal dispute between neighbours was reported in Akinlalu community, Osun State.
A farmer, Samson Gabriel, was allegedly hacked to death by his neighbour, Lekan Oyebamiji, following an argument reportedly linked to money.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, October 31, reportedly triggered tension in the community, with some residents said to have left their homes amid fears of possible police arrests.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed Oyebamiji’s arrest in connection with Gabriel’s death. The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary information indicated that the killing followed a disagreement over money and that an investigation had commenced.
Although the two incidents occurred in different states and reportedly involved different disputes, both have drawn attention to fatal violence arising from disagreements between neighbours.
In Adamawa, the police say the investigation will continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the suspect remains in custody.
The authorities have yet to disclose whether Augustine has made a formal statement or whether he has been charged before a court.
The police investigation is expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding Markus’s death and determine the next steps in the prosecution process.
