The Oyo State Government has commenced a fresh verification exercise for more than 900 property owners affected by the first phase of the Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project in Ibadan who are yet to receive compensation, in a move aimed at addressing omissions from the earlier disbursement process.

The exercise, which began on Monday, follows the state government’s approval of an additional ₦5.8 billion compensation package for landowners and residents impacted by the 110-kilometre infrastructure project, one of the largest urban road developments in the South-West.

Chairman of the monitoring committee overseeing the compensation process, Sunday Odukoya, said the new exercise is targeted at capturing individuals whose names were left out during the initial verification and payment phase.

According to him, affected property owners are expected to report either to the Ministry of Lands or the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, which also serves as the verification committee’s operational base, to confirm their eligibility.

Odukoya said the government had identified over 900 omitted claimants, noting that the reverification process was necessary to ensure no genuine beneficiary was excluded from the compensation plan.

He listed the required documents for claimants to include local government identification letters or valid residence permits for non-indigenes, survey plans, drawings of affected structures or farmland, photographs of the property, land purchase agreements and affidavits issued by a court or the Ministry of Justice.

He added that claimants appearing through representatives must provide a valid power of attorney, while all applicants are required to submit passport photographs, National Identification Numbers, guarantors’ identification documents, and verified bank details for payment processing.

The Oyo State government also directed affected persons to obtain recommendation letters from landlord associations in their respective communities to support their claims.

The fresh exercise comes days after the Oyo State Executive Council approved ₦5.8 billion as an additional compensation package for affected property owners, adding to earlier payments already made to hundreds of beneficiaries.

Officials say the payment is part of broader efforts to reduce disputes surrounding the ambitious circular road project and sustain the pace of construction.

The Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project remains one of the signature infrastructure programmes of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration and is expected to reshape transportation and urban expansion across Ibadan.

Stretching about 110 kilometres, the road is designed to decongest major routes into the city and connect strategic growth corridors for industrial, residential and commercial activities.

Beyond easing traffic congestion, government officials say the project is expected to boost land values, attract private investment and support long-term city planning.

Some affected landowners had earlier raised concerns over exclusion from previous compensation rounds, making the new verification exercise a critical step in resolving outstanding claims.

The Oyo state government maintains that compensation remains central to the smooth execution of the project, stressing that all genuine claimants will be considered once their documentation is verified.

With construction progressing across several sections of the corridor, the reverification exercise is expected to determine the final list of beneficiaries before fresh payments begin.
