The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Peter Sinamai, for allegedly killing his father and dumping his body in an abandoned well in Sangere, Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested after police operatives responded to a report from members of the community, prompting an investigation into the incident.
Confirming the arrest in a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly murdered his father before disposing of the corpse in a well within the community.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly killed his father and disposed his body in a well within their community,” Nguroje said.
Police recovered the victim’s remains from the abandoned well and deposited the body at a mortuary for an autopsy.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Hassan, has directed detectives to carry out a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police said the suspect would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Condemning the alleged killing, Hassan assured residents that justice would be served and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged members of the public to resolve family disputes through lawful and peaceful means and to seek help from appropriate authorities whenever conflicts arise.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns over domestic violence and family-related crimes, with security agencies continuing to encourage early intervention in family disputes before they escalate.
In April 2026, an Anambra State High Court sentenced Ifeanyi Anizoba Jnr to death by hanging for killing his father after the court found him guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
Police say investigations into the Adamawa case are ongoing.
