President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy with residents of Borno State after a series of attacks in Maiduguri that resulted in multiple casualties.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the President mourned those who lost their lives and extended support to the injured and affected families. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security in the region.

Tinubu described the incidents as attempts by insurgent groups to create fear, noting that ongoing military pressure may have contributed to the attacks. He said security forces would continue operations aimed at dismantling armed groups across the country.

The President also commended Nigerian troops for repelling coordinated assaults on military positions, highlighting their response as a key factor in limiting further damage. He disclosed that additional resources had recently been approved to strengthen ongoing counterinsurgency efforts.

According to the statement, security chiefs have been directed to relocate to Maiduguri to oversee operations, while emergency response agencies have been tasked with providing medical care and assistance to victims.

Authorities indicated that efforts are underway to prevent further incidents, with the government reiterating that armed groups would not be allowed to operate freely within the country.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army warned of a possible threat involving suspected members of Boko Haram, cautioning residents to avoid crowded locations.

The alert followed coordinated explosions on Monday that reportedly killed at least 23 people and injured more than 100 others. The attacks targeted busy areas, including the Post Office vicinity, the Monday Market axis, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

In a statement, Lieutenant Colonel Sanni Uba of Operation Hadin Kai said the locations were deliberately chosen to maximize casualties and spread panic.

The Nigerian Army and the Borno State Police Command confirmed that security personnel had secured the affected areas and conducted sweep operations to prevent additional threats.

Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso stated that bomb disposal units were deployed to thoroughly examine the scenes. Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
