United States President Donald Trump will attend Sunday’s FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, the White House has confirmed.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the president’s plans on Thursday, describing the tournament as a successful showcase of the United States’ ability to host a global sporting event.
She said Trump will first attend a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York on Friday before travelling to the World Cup final on Sunday.

The White House confirmation comes after FIFA President Gianni Infantino had earlier indicated that Trump would attend the final and participate in presenting the trophy to the winning team.
Leavitt declined to reveal whether the president would support Spain or Argentina.
Although Trump did not attend any matches earlier in the tournament, he remained involved in football-related developments, including publicly confirming that he asked FIFA to review the suspension of United States striker Folarin Balogun during the competition.
Trump has also repeatedly highlighted his role in the United States securing hosting rights for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
His participation in Sunday’s trophy ceremony follows widespread attention during last year’s FIFA Club World Cup final, when he remained on the podium during Chelsea’s post-match celebrations after presenting the trophy.
The World Cup final will be played on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
