The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Oyo State, Sikiru Bayo Titilola-Sodo, says his ambition to lead the state in 2027 is driven by a desire to improve residents’ welfare and make life more comfortable for the people.
Titilola-Sodo said his decision to contest the election was motivated by a commitment to public service, insisting that his ambition was not driven by personal interests or a hidden agenda.
The former labour leader made the remarks during an interview on Melody FM in Ibadan, where he also expressed concern about the state of local government administration in Oyo State.
He argued that local governments remained essential to grassroots development but needed to function effectively to deliver public services and address the needs of their communities.
According to the AA candidate, local councils should be empowered to discharge their responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to development across the state.
He promised that, if elected governor, his administration would work towards improving local government administration and ensuring that communities received greater attention from government.
Titilola-Sodo said governance should be centred on the welfare of residents, with public policies and development programmes designed to improve living conditions across urban and rural communities.
He added that his vision was to build an Oyo State where public institutions worked for the benefit of residents and where local communities had better access to public services.
The candidate urged residents to support his governorship ambition, pledging to prioritise people-oriented policies and grassroots development if elected in 2027.
Local government administration
Titilola-Sodo’s comments place local government administration among the issues shaping political discussions ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
The candidate has previously advocated financial and administrative autonomy for local governments, arguing that empowering councils could support rural development, stimulate economic activity and reduce the pressure on young people to migrate to urban centres.
His latest remarks similarly emphasise the role of local councils in bringing government closer to residents.
However, his assessment of the effectiveness of local government administration under the current Oyo State government remains his stated position.
Titilola-Sodo is among the candidates positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 governorship election. He was also among those invited to participate in a Success FM Ibadan town hall meeting designed to give contenders an opportunity to present their ideas and engage with residents on issues affecting the state.
As political activities gather pace, questions around local government administration, public services and grassroots development are likely to remain part of the debate over the future direction of Oyo State.
