Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered N8 million ransom in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Joint Task Force disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the operation was carried out on April 25 by troops deployed in Sector 9, Shendam.
According to the military, the victim was abducted on April 19 from the Bauna area of Shendam Local Government Area before being taken to a hideout in Padam Forest in neighbouring Qua’an Pan.
The rescue followed intelligence gathering and the interrogation of a suspect who confessed to the crime, leading troops to the location where the victim was held.
“Troops successfully rescued the kidnapped victim and recovered the ransom paid by the family during a coordinated operation,” the statement said.
The military added that the sum of N8 million, earlier paid as ransom, was recovered and returned to the victim’s family.
Following her rescue, the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Shendam for medical attention before being reunited with her relatives.
Troops have since intensified operations in the area, targeting suspected hideouts across Qua’an Pan and Shendam LGAs in a bid to arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
The Joint Task Force also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely information to aid ongoing efforts to restore peace in the area.
