Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has declared that President Bola Tinubu has undertaken more developmental projects in Northern Nigeria than any previous Nigerian leader, citing ongoing road infrastructure, agriculture interventions, healthcare investments and rail projects as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television on Tuesday, Sani dismissed claims that Tinubu was losing political support in the North ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the President would record stronger electoral performance in the region than he did in the 2023 presidential poll.
The governor said his assessment was based on measurable government interventions rather than political sentiment.
“Let me be very frank with you. And when I talk, I talk on the basis of data and statistics. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today, I can tell you, he has done more than any leader for Northern Nigeria,” Sani said.
“I can tell you categorically, no president has done to the North in terms of development as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done in the last three years. And I’m speaking on the basis of data and statistics.”
Sani also rejected assertions that Northern voters had become disillusioned with Tinubu’s administration amid economic reforms, inflationary pressures and rising cost-of-living concerns.
“A lot of people have come here and told you the North will not vote for Asiwaju. That is a figment of their imagination,” he said.
“I can tell you categorically, I’m the Governor of Kaduna State and I can tell you, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will get more votes in 2027 than what he got.”
The Kaduna governor highlighted several federal projects currently underway in the state and across the region, describing them as signs of renewed government attention to Northern infrastructure.
Among them is the Abuja-Kaduna highway, a strategic transport corridor that has suffered years of delays and insecurity concerns.
According to Sani, the Federal Government has released over N600 billion towards the completion of the project, out of an estimated N750 billion contract value.
“As we are speaking, and you should jot it down, this project will be commissioned, by God’s grace, November this year, because over N600 billion has already been paid to the contractor,” he said.
The governor added that he was personally monitoring progress on the road project, which remains one of the most important transport links connecting the Federal Capital Territory to the North-West.
Sani also pointed to the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road, saying the project had remained neglected for decades before the Tinubu administration approved fresh funding.
“Only last three weeks, the President has paid part of the N178 billion to construct the road from Kaduna to Birnin Gwari, which was abandoned for over 25 years. And you tell me the people will not be happy?” he stated.
On agriculture, Sani said Kaduna had benefited significantly from federal interventions, especially under initiatives aimed at boosting food production and agro-industrialisation.
He noted that Kaduna has emerged as one of the leading beneficiaries of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones initiative, adding that farmers in the state had also received fertiliser support through federal programmes.
“Mr President has supported subnationals, including Kaduna State Government, in agriculture because for me, agriculture is the mainstay of our economy,” the governor said.
Beyond roads and agriculture, Sani listed healthcare and education projects as additional indicators of federal investment in the North, including the establishment of a Federal University of Science and Technology in Southern Kaduna and the upgrading of a state-owned hospital into a Federal Medical Centre.
He also referenced the proposed Kaduna Light Rail project, which recently secured approval from the Federal Executive Council.
“Only last month, the Federal Executive Council also approved N1 trillion. I can tell you the project is about to start because feasibility studies have been done, money has been released for Kaduna Light Rail. It’s N1 trillion. Kaduna N1 trillion, Kano N1 trillion,” he said.
Tinubu’s administration has repeatedly defended its economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange liberalisation, arguing that short-term challenges would eventually translate into long-term economic growth.
However, opposition parties and critics have continued to question whether the benefits of ongoing reforms and infrastructure investments are being felt widely enough by ordinary Nigerians.
Sani’s remarks come amid increasing political conversations around the 2027 elections, with parties and regional stakeholders already positioning themselves ahead of what is expected to be another highly contested presidential race.
