Barcelona have confirmed that manager Hansi Flick has signed a new contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028, following an impressive spell that has restored the Catalan giants to the top of Spanish football.
The agreement was officially signed on Monday at the club’s offices in the presence of senior club officials, including vice-president Rafa Yuste and sporting director Deco, as the Spanish champions moved quickly to secure the future of the German tactician.
Flick’s previous contract was due to expire in 2027, but Barcelona opted to reward the former Bayern Munich coach after a highly successful period that has seen the club win five trophies in two seasons.
In a statement released by the club, Flick expressed his delight at continuing with the project.
“It’s a pleasure for me to continue this journey,” the German coach said.
“The goal is to win more titles, perhaps also the Champions League. We will work for that so the dream comes true.”
Since replacing Xavi Hernandez, Flick has transformed Barcelona into one of Europe’s most consistent and attacking sides, rebuilding confidence within the squad and reconnecting the team with its traditional playing identity.
Under his leadership, Barcelona have won two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and a Copa del Rey, while also re-establishing dominance over rivals Real Madrid in recent Clasico meetings.
The club’s hierarchy reportedly views Flick as the ideal manager to lead the next phase of Barcelona’s rebuilding process, particularly as the club seeks to compete consistently for the UEFA Champions League again.
Beyond the silverware, Flick has earned widespread praise for promoting young talents from the famous La Masia academy.
Barcelona confirmed that 13 academy players have made their first-team debuts under the German coach, reflecting his strong commitment to youth development and long-term squad building.
The club also highlighted several records achieved during Flick’s tenure.
Barcelona finished the recent league season with a perfect home record, winning all league matches at the Spotify Camp Nou. The team also scored 175 goals during the campaign, making it one of the highest-scoring seasons in the club’s history.
Flick currently boasts one of the best win percentages of any manager in Barcelona history, with 88 wins from 116 matches in charge.
His record against Real Madrid has also become a major talking point among supporters. Barcelona have reportedly won six of the seven Clasicos played under his management, including victories in domestic finals.
Club president Joan Laporta has repeatedly praised Flick’s leadership style and tactical discipline, particularly his ability to balance experienced stars with emerging talents.
Reports in Spain suggested negotiations over the extension had progressed smoothly in recent weeks, with Flick preferring to delay the final signing until Barcelona’s league title was mathematically secured.

The extension is being viewed by supporters as a major statement of stability at a time when several European clubs are facing managerial uncertainty.
Barcelona’s focus is now expected to shift toward strengthening the squad ahead of next season as the club targets a stronger Champions League campaign under Flick’s leadership.
The German coach previously enjoyed enormous success at Bayern Munich, where he won the UEFA Champions League and completed a historic sextuple before moving into international football with Germany.
His resurgence at Barcelona has now firmly re-established him among Europe’s elite managers once again.
