Seyi Makinde has felicitated Muslims in Oyo State and across the country on the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, urging residents to pray for peace and remain vigilant amid rising security concerns.
In a statement released on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor described Eid-el-Kabir as a significant season of sacrifice, obedience and devotion to God.
Makinde prayed for Allah’s protection over Muslim faithful and asked that the celebration be used to promote peace, unity and progress in both Oyo State and Nigeria.
He called on the Muslim Ummah to remember the country, the state and leaders at all levels in their prayers as authorities continue efforts to address economic and security challenges.
The governor also appealed to residents to pray for the safe return of abducted teachers and pupils from Oriire Local Government Area, where a recent attack sparked widespread concern across the state.
According to the statement, the government is making concerted efforts to secure the victims’ rescue and strengthen security operations in affected communities.
Makinde’s message comes amid heightened public anxiety over recent kidnapping incidents in Oyo, including attacks linked to armed groups operating in parts of the state.
Residents have continued to express concern over insecurity following the abduction of students, teachers and other residents in separate incidents over the past weeks.
The governor urged residents to remain vigilant during and after the Sallah celebrations, warning that the growing threat of kidnapping and banditry requires increased security awareness and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property while sustaining policies aimed at improving the welfare and economic conditions of residents.
Makinde also assured citizens that the state government would continue collaborating with security agencies to address emerging threats and maintain public safety.
The Eid-el-Adha celebration, one of the most important festivals in Islam, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and obedience and is observed globally with prayers, charity and communal activities.
