Tension gripped the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday after an alleged killing triggered unrest, prompting the deployment of security operatives to restore calm and prevent the situation from escalating.
Eyewitnesses said the disturbance followed allegations that a tricycle mechanic was attacked during an altercation involving suspected scrap collectors. Authorities are yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Personnel of the Oyo State joint security outfit, Operation Burst, alongside other security agencies, were deployed to the area to maintain law and order.
The unrest reportedly caused panic among residents and business owners, with some shops closing temporarily while people fled over fears of further violence.
As of press time, the Oyo State Police Command had not released an official statement confirming the alleged killing or the identities of those involved.
Authorities have also not verified claims circulating on social media describing the disturbance as an ethnic clash between Yoruba and Hausa groups.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
The deployment of security personnel is aimed at preventing further violence and ensuring the safety of residents in the busy commercial community.
Officials are expected to provide more details after ongoing investigations.
