MDCN Approval: The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has granted accreditation to Kwara State University Teaching Hospital as a training facility for the preclinical medical programme of Kwara State University.

The approval followed an evaluation exercise conducted by the council, according to a statement issued by the hospital’s corporate affairs unit.

Kwara State Commissioner for Health Aminat El Imam said the accreditation was based on a comprehensive presentation made to the MDCN team, led by Deputy Registrar Nnaemeka Nwakama. She described the outcome as a step forward for medical education and healthcare development in the state.

The assessment process included a briefing held at the university’s MBA Study Centre in Ilorin, where officials outlined the preparedness of both the institution and the teaching hospital.

Authorities stated that both the teaching hospital and the university’s preclinical programme have now met the required standards. The state government also pledged to address any identified gaps before the next evaluation.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration was said to be continuing investments in healthcare infrastructure and workforce development to support the programme.

Vice-Chancellor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh welcomed the accreditation, attributing it to collaboration between stakeholders and reaffirming the university’s commitment to implementing recommendations.

The MDCN team commended the state’s efforts, including the upgrade of a general hospital into a teaching facility, noting that the development could improve access to healthcare services.

With the accreditation in place, 300-level medical students at the university will proceed to clinical training at the teaching hospital after completing their first professional examinations.
