Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a work-free day for public servants to enable them collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The directive, announced on Monday, applies to all categories of public servants, including local government workers and staff of tertiary institutions.
The approval was conveyed in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and confirmed in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

According to the state government, the work-free day is intended to allow workers fulfil their civic responsibility by collecting their voter cards before the close of the exercise.
Workers providing essential services, including medical personnel and security operatives, have been advised to make internal arrangements to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Governor Adeleke also urged all eligible voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so without delay.
“Your vote is your power. Your voter’s card is your licence to the ballot paper and, by extension, to the ballot box,” the governor said.
The declaration comes as preparations gather pace for the August 15 governorship election, where Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
He will face candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other political parties in the off-cycle election.
