Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1 or K1 De Ultimate, broke down in tears on stage after receiving news of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, on Sunday.

A video circulating online showed the Fuji star becoming visibly emotional while performing in Lagos. KWAM1 reportedly began paying tribute to the late actor before the weight of the news overwhelmed him.

Members of his band and associates quickly moved closer to console the musician as he wiped away tears and stepped away from the microphone.

The emotional scene has since gone viral on social media, with fans describing the reaction as a reflection of the close ties between Nigeria’s Fuji and Yoruba entertainment communities.

Another Fuji musician, Malaika, also mourned Ogogo, expressing his pain over the actor’s death.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko confirmed the death, saying the actor passed away at about 3pm.

His death came days after his family disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance.

The development came after a difficult period for the actor’s family. On August 18, one of his daughters had dismissed social media reports falsely claiming that Ogogo had already died.

The confirmation of his death five days later triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, entertainers, fans and public figures.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was among those who mourned the veteran actor, describing his death as a painful loss to Nigeria’s creative community.

Ogogo was one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood. His career spanned more than four decades, during which he worked as an actor and filmmaker while becoming an important figure in indigenous Nigerian storytelling.

For generations of Yoruba film audiences, Ogogo was known for his commanding screen presence and distinctive performances. His contribution extended beyond individual movie roles to a wider generation of actors and filmmakers who helped establish Yoruba-language cinema as a major part of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

His death has also renewed conversations about the welfare and healthcare challenges facing veteran entertainers who spent decades building Nigeria’s film industry.

Ogogo’s remains were taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his funeral rites.

Burial arrangements announced by his family and associates indicated that funeral activities would take place in Ilaro on Monday, August 24, in accordance with Islamic rites.

As tributes continue to pour in, KWAM1’s emotional reaction has emerged as one of the most striking moments of grief following Ogogo’s death.

For many fans, the scene captured more than the loss of a celebrated actor. It showed the personal pain felt across a generation of Nigerian entertainers who shared a cultural and professional bond with the late Yoruba cinema icon.

May his soul rest in peace.
