Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the distribution of 1,800 bags of rice and other relief materials to widows, persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and other vulnerable residents under the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, during a media briefing in Akure.

Osamaye said the food outreach is one of two empowerment programmes approved by the governor to cushion the effects of current economic challenges on vulnerable households.

She explained that the programme targets widows, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and other vulnerable members of society.

According to the commissioner, 1,800 bags of rice will be distributed alongside other relief materials to improve household welfare and ease hardship across the state.

She said the intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and ensuring that vulnerable citizens benefit from government support.

Osamaye added that the programme is expected to provide immediate relief, promote social inclusion, restore dignity to beneficiaries and strengthen public confidence in government-led social intervention initiatives.

The commissioner also announced a second programme, Sensitisation and Empowerment of Women on Gender Equality and Adequate Representation in Governance, also known as the Project 774 Explode Initiative.

She said the initiative aims to equip women with leadership, advocacy and political participation skills to encourage greater representation in governance and decision-making.

According to her, participants will benefit from mentorship, networking opportunities and capacity-building sessions designed to prepare them for leadership positions.

Osamaye described both programmes as strategic investments in human capital development and sustainable community growth, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable residents and promoting inclusive development.
