France captain and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has ended his two-decade partnership with Nike and signed a new deal with Swiss sportswear company On.

On announced the partnership on Friday as the company formally entered the football market.

The sportswear brand also appointed former France international and 1998 World Cup winner Thierry Henry as its Director of Football.

The agreement ends a relationship between Mbappe and Nike that began in 2006, when the forward was still a child.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, although On said the arrangement includes cash and equity components.

On plans to launch its first football boots in 2027 as part of its expansion into the sport.

Mbappe said he was attracted to the partnership by the opportunity to help create new football products and contribute his experience to their development.

“From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game,” Mbappe said.

“I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football.”

The partnership will see Mbappe work with On’s product teams as the company develops football footwear and apparel.

Founded in Switzerland in 2010, On initially built its reputation in running before expanding into other sports. Tennis great Roger Federer is an investor and long-term partner of the company.

Henry has been working with On since late 2025 on its entry into football. As Director of Football, he will be involved in product development, athlete relationships and the company’s broader football strategy.

Mbappe’s departure ends one of Nike’s longest-running relationships with a leading footballer.

The move also comes after Spain international Lamine Yamal left Nike for Adidas in 2024.

Nike continues to have agreements with prominent players including Norway striker Erling Haaland and Brazil forward Vinicius Junior.

For On, the signing of Mbappe gives the company a major football profile as it prepares to challenge established sportswear brands in the market.

The Swiss company has not disclosed the full commercial value of its agreement with Mbappe.
