Nottingham Forest ended a 32-year wait for a victory at Villa Park after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The win was Forest’s first of the 2026/27 league season and extended their unbeaten start to three matches.

Liam Delap gave Forest the lead shortly after half-time with his first goal for the club.

Aston Villa fought back and substitute Alysson equalised with just over 15 minutes remaining, heading in John McGinn’s deep cross.

But Forest had the final say when Igor Jesus restored their lead in the closing stages to secure three points for the visitors.

The victory was also Oliver Glasner’s first as Forest manager.

Forest moved to five points from their opening three matches after previously drawing away to Liverpool and at home against Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa started the match brightly at Villa Park, with Matz Sels making two early saves to deny Victor Lindelöf.

Forest gradually settled into the contest, with James McAtee, Morgan Gibbs-White and Neco Williams going close before half-time.

The visitors became increasingly dangerous after the break and eventually took the lead.

Murillo won possession in Villa’s half before Delap drove forward and fired into the bottom-left corner.

Forest thought they had extended their advantage later in the half, but another Delap effort was ruled out for offside.

Villa eventually levelled through Alysson, who rose to meet McGinn’s cross and headed the ball past Sels.

The hosts were dealt another blow late in the match after using all five substitutions, with Ian Maatsen unable to continue because of injury.

Forest capitalised on the situation and regained control as they searched for a winner.

Igor Jesus settled the contest when he guided Danilo Muñoz’s cross into the bottom corner, with Gibbs-White involved in the build-up.

Villa could not find another equaliser as Forest secured their first Premier League victory of the season.

The result leaves Forest unbeaten after three matches, while Villa continue their search for a first league win of the campaign.

Forest’s next Premier League assignment is against Coventry City at the City Ground.
