Parts of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, will experience a temporary power outage on Tuesday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria shuts down a key transformer for maintenance.
The disruption follows a scheduled preventive exercise at the Ayede Transmission Substation, where a 100MVA, 132/33kV transformer will be taken out of service between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the maintenance is necessary to keep the facility in optimal condition and ensure reliable power transmission.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby notifies the public of scheduled maintenance of one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers… from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.,” the statement said.
She explained that the exercise would enable engineers to carry out routine checks on the equipment to sustain performance and prevent unexpected failures.
As a result of the shutdown, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to customers in the Express, Industrial and Oluyole areas during the maintenance window.
TCN said power supply would be restored immediately after the work is completed, while apologising for the inconvenience to residents and businesses affected by the outage.
The development adds to ongoing power supply challenges in Ibadan, where outages are often linked to maintenance activities and infrastructure issues across the electricity network.
