The Premier League returns on Saturday, October 10, after a 19-day international break, with defending champions Arsenal, Manchester United and leaders Manchester City among the clubs set for crucial Matchweek 6 fixtures.
The extended pause followed a revised FIFA international calendar that created a longer window for national teams, allowing them to play up to four matches.
The wait ends at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal will host unbeaten Leeds United in the opening fixture of the weekend.
The Gunners return to league action after a 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion in their final match before the international break.
Arsenal, who are defending their Premier League crown, will be keen to restart their campaign with a victory.
Leeds, however, have made an unbeaten start to their return to the top flight under Daniel Farke. They are among only five teams yet to lose after the opening five matches, matching a feat last achieved by the club in the 2001/02 Premier League season.
Saturday’s programme also features Aston Villa against Brentford, Chelsea versus Bournemouth, Ipswich Town against Fulham and Sunderland’s meeting with Brighton.
The late fixture at Old Trafford could provide another major talking point as Manchester United welcome Tottenham Hotspur.
United have five points from their opening five matches, while Tottenham have collected just two points, leaving both sides in need of a strong result when the league resumes.
The biggest fixture of the weekend comes on Sunday at Anfield, where Liverpool host leaders Manchester City.
City have won all five of their league matches and return from the international break with a perfect 15-point record.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have nine points and will be looking to close the gap on the early leaders with victory on home soil.
The contest will also feature two of the Premier League’s leading scorers. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland leads the scoring chart with five goals, while Liverpool’s Alexander Isak has four.
Liverpool’s preparations have been complicated by fitness concerns over Isak and Cody Gakpo.
Isak left the Sweden squad with a thigh problem, while Gakpo returned to Liverpool after suffering an ankle injury while on international duty with the Netherlands.
Arsenal also have a fitness concern after Germany international Kai Havertz suffered a muscle injury during the international break.
The weekend’s action will conclude on Monday when Coventry City host Newcastle United.
Coventry head into the fixture after securing their first points of the season with victory at Nottingham Forest, while Newcastle will be looking for a positive result after the lengthy pause.
With Arsenal seeking a winning start to their title defence, Manchester United and Tottenham battling for momentum and Liverpool facing a perfect-start Manchester City side, Matchweek 6 promises an immediate return to high-stakes Premier League action.
