Lagos State University has resolved the controversy over missing academic results in its Department of English, assuring qualified graduating students that they will not be forced to spend an additional year because of the issue.

The university disclosed this on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following an inquiry into allegations that some students were facing delayed graduation because their results had not been uploaded.

According to LASU, the Department of English had uploaded all outstanding results as of Sunday.

The institution said students who had fulfilled all graduation requirements would graduate with their colleagues from the 2025/2026 academic session.

“Following an enquiry by the University Management into the allegation concerning the non-upload of results of some graduating students in the Department of English, the University wishes to clarify that the Department has uploaded all outstanding results as of Sunday, 23 August 2026,” LASU said.

The university added that no student who had met all graduation requirements would be required to spend an extra year because of the result issue.

It, however, advised students whose records remained outstanding after the latest update to complete any pending requirements.

“Any student whose result remains outstanding following this action has yet to fulfil the requirements for graduation and is advised to complete the necessary requirements accordingly,” the university stated.

The development followed social media allegations that more than 100 students in the Department of English could miss graduation because some results dating back to their 300-level studies had allegedly not been uploaded.

The claims were amplified by an X user, @TheAjakeManger, who alleged that some students could spend an additional year at LASU despite having completed their academic work.

The university had acknowledged the complaint on Saturday and announced that management was investigating the matter.

The controversy also attracted the attention of student representatives, who opened discussions with the university management over the concerns.

NANS President Akinteye Babatunde urged affected students to remain calm, saying student leaders were engaging the institution to find a resolution.

“To all LASU students that are affected with this, please remain calm as discussions have been opened with the management by the leadership of NANS and JCC Lagos Axis,” he said.

A lecturer familiar with the matter also confirmed that the issue was being handled at the university level.

“I’m not open to discussions on this. It’s been handled at the university level and the challenges would be resolved soon,” the lecturer said.

The controversy emerged shortly after LASU’s combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies, increasing concerns among students whose academic records had not been fully updated.

Beyond the graduating class, students had also raised separate concerns online over delayed results, course-code changes and discrepancies on academic portals. Those wider claims have not been established by the university as part of the latest resolution.

With LASU now saying all outstanding results have been uploaded, affected students are expected to verify their individual academic records and complete any remaining graduation requirements.

For eligible students, the university’s assurance means the result-upload controversy should not, by itself, prevent them from graduating with their peers in the 2025/2026 academic session.
