The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed former Osun State Deputy Governor Iyiola Omisore to its 276-member National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, in a move expected to end recent speculation over his commitment to the party.
The campaign council, announced by the APC National Working Committee, will be chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and inaugurated on Tuesday, July 28, at the Transcorp Hilton Event Centre in Abuja.
The appointments were contained in a notice signed by APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru.

Omisore’s inclusion follows rumours that he had become inactive within the party after some of his political associates defected to the Accord Party to support Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign.
The speculation intensified after Omisore was absent from the APC governorship campaign flag-off in Ile-Ife.
According to the party, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas will serve as co-chairmen of the campaign council.
The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, will serve as deputy chairman, while Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin will act as secretary.
The council comprises governors, members of the National Working Committee, principal officers of the National Assembly, ministers, federal and state lawmakers, party leaders and other stakeholders from across the country.
The APC also established specialised sub-committees covering election planning, finance, grassroots mobilisation, logistics, media and publicity, security, monitoring, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation and protocol.
The party is fielding former Commissioner for Finance Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) as its governorship candidate against incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Reacting to Omisore’s appointment, Chairman of the Omisore Campaign Organisation, Ajibola Famurewa, dismissed reports suggesting the former deputy governor was leaving the APC.
He said Omisore would accept the assignment as a loyal party member and explained that his absence from the campaign flag-off resulted from a late invitation rather than political differences.
With the election drawing closer, the APC is expected to intensify its campaign as it seeks to unseat the PDP-led administration in one of Nigeria’s most closely watched off-cycle governorship contests.
